Munnar is the hill station surrounded by the lush green of Tea plantation located in the western ghats. The destination is home to the only sandalwood forest in Kerala and is also famous for its exotic flora and fauna. The Nilgiri tahr (mountain goat), Kolukkumala - worlds highest organic orthodox tea plantation and the once-in-twelve-year blooming wonder - Neelakurinji flower (Strobilantheskunthiana) are the few gems in the crown of Munnar. The state animal of Kerala is Elephants which you will find many ones in Munnar. Munnar is the derivative name from Malayalam, munnu - three and aar - rivers , as three rivers flow in this region, namely Mudhirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly rivers. Regions in Munnar varies in height from 4,760 ft to 8,842 ft above mean sea level.
